Spring 2018 : A Capsule Wardrobe

If you would have asked me 7 years ago what I thought my life would look like, I would think one of the first words to pop out of my month would have be fashion. Since I was little, clothes and fashion was always a strong interest of mine. I graduated college with a fashion merchandising degree, so one would think I would go into a industry with fashion. However, I did not. I have a career so outside of the fashion industry, that wearing a pair of kitten heels in my office can appear, I am dressing for Prince Charming. OK, maybe I am exaggerating a little, but in short, I work in a very casual work environment, and that lack of passion for fashion definitely rubs off on me. Over the past 4 years, my fashion drive has dwindled to being content with just jeans and a t-shirt in the office.

To be a little over dramatic, I definitely lost a piece of who I am over the last 4 years. I am sure you can see it with the types of posts I now do on the blog. First of Mae started as an outfit-of-the-day heavy blog, because that is what I was passionate about and what filled my life.  Now, because of my work environment, fashion has took a back seat and finding a way to make what was once a passion is difficult.

This all leads me to a capsule wardrobe. I knew, I needed to kick myself in my butt in order to get back on track with my fashion game and I need something to keep me on track. In walks the capsule wardrobe. In short, a capsule wardrobe is a select number of garments that create a variety of outfits. I knew this would be the thing I needed to get back to who I am.

I selected 26 pieces, mostly from my current wardrobe, to make up my spring capsule. The goal is to only wear these 26 items for the entire month of May. Now, of course, there are some exceptions. I am not counting belts, scarves, jewelry, or coats into those 26 pieces. Basically, the capsule is made up of blouses, sweaters, jackets, dresses, skirts, denim, dress pants, and shoes.

I am super excited to see where this spring capsule wardrobe takes me. It all starts on the First of Mae.
